Space within A Space: How Does Museum Architecture Enhance the Museum Experience Inside the Building?

Show #204

When talking about museum architecture, the word “architecture” is taken for granted. Architecture is a general and begs the question as to what is museum architecture and its role in not only the preservation of the objects inside but as a work of art itself? The process of design and architecture are more like the processes of aspiration and creation. Structures and spaces have human ideas inside, and they represent human perceptions and creativity in of themselves, sometimes to enhance what is inside but also as art in and of itself. What can we learn from the study of museum architecture and how might it change our overall museum experience?

Guests

Sis (Eleanor) Hight is Professor Emerita of Art History at the University of New Hampshire; Len Sussman earned his AB from Harvard and M.Arch from Yale, then practiced commercial and residential architecture in New England for 40 years.
